What’s Included

Recommended for people who have attended our Introductory Course, spend a full day developing your blacksmithing skills further by making a much larger project. The course will include some or all of the six essential forging techniques, depending on the item being made:

  • Bending (typically turning an eye)

  • Drawing Down (reducing a section of steel to a point)

  • Jumping Up (increasing a section of steel)

  • Punching (making a hole)

  • Cutting (using a hot-set or chisel)

  • Fire Welding (joining two pieces of metal in the forge)

The project undertaken will be significantly larger than the Introduction course, and will have a seasonal theme, for example an item of garden sculpture. The item will be designed to fit into the boot of a car to be taken home at the end of the day.

In addition to the forging techniques, we will also discuss finishes and protection for items designed to be kept outdoors.
