Spend a full day learning the ancient craft of blacksmithing in the company of a blacksmith with thirty years experience in traditional and modern forgework. Start with our introductory course in a supportive and professional environment, and we are sure you will want to return for one of our more advanced courses.
What’s included:
You will make a hand-forged object with a seasonal theme, for example a ram’s head toasting fork.
Learn about the six essential forging techniques:
Bending
Drawing Down (reducing a section of steel to a point)
Jumping Up (increasing a section of steel)
Punching (making a hole)
Cutting (using a hot-set or chisel)
Fire Welding (joining two pieces of metal in the forge)
Participants will use some or all of these techniques to create a piece of work to take home.
In addition to this, you will have a fascinating insight into the history and mystery of forge work and blacksmithing.
You will need to bring:
Enthusiasm, a sense of humour, a willingness to learn and some lunch. We will provide the rest!
